Stars score for charity

CELEBRITIES graced Barton Stadium on Saturday as they took on Winsford United reserves in a charity football match.

Although the All Star team was defeated 6-5, everyone got a chance to meet some of their favourite celebrities including actors from Hollyoaks and Coronation Street.

More than £1,400 was raised at the event for the Leighton Hospital Prostate Cancer Support Group.

Gary Steele, event organiser and support group chairman, said: "Everyone enjoyed the occasion and the autograph hunters were not disappointed as the celebrities stayed and allowed photographs to be taken and signed autographs to all who asked."

Among the celebrities were Hollyoaks actors Jimmy Mckenna, who plays Jack Osborne, and Matt Milburn, who plays Joe Spencer.

A crowd of around 500 turned up to the Barton Stadium and were treated to a thrilling encounter.

Gary said: "It was a huge success for everyone because there were people who came to see the stars and enjoy the day and that means we were able to raise awareness of prostate cancer with even more people.

"I think sport is a great way for us to raise awareness because it gets the message across to younger people."
