Inconsiderate car parking is putting people at risk

INCONSIDERATE and disabled drivers have come under fire from the man responsible for promoting Biddulph town centre.

Frank Harris hit out at motorists who park on the pavement in Biddulph High Street.

He also attacked those people who "abuse" the Blue Badge system for disabled drivers.

Mr Harris is the town centre co-ordinator, and his priority is to make Biddulph a thriving, safe and pleasant place.

"That safety is being jeopardised by a small group of drivers," he said.

"This group of drivers who park, often on the pavement, at the northern end of the High Street, is putting the vulnerable at extreme risk to save 20p for a 50-yard walk.

"The pavements at this point are very narrow, so this forces mums with pushchairs and people in wheelchairs onto the road to take their chances with the traffic."

He also criticised those he claimed used their Blue Badges to park for hours on the stretch of High Street between King Street and Well Street.

"People don't mind them being there for a few minutes, but when it stretches to hours, and it's common knowledge the concession is being made a mockery of, it annoys people and hardens attitudes," he said.

"Blatantly to abuse the privileges of the Blue Badge is to make people less sympathetic.

"This is nothing to do with the car parking charges, as drivers who hold the Blue Badge are the one group who may park for nothing on the car parks."
