IT was the first game back after the winter break and the Hornets looked ready for action despite the terrible weather conditions.
Hornets started well with some good strong running from Callum Campbell, Adam Murphy and Joseph Kelly despite several attempts to get over the white wash Blackbrook were the first to score with a successful conversion.
Hornets were straight back at them with some great running from Lloyd Hankin, Stuart Johnson and Sam Osbourne, this lead up to Matty Fozard scoring in at the corner and converting his own try.
This was the start of some fantastic rugby, Blackbrook were back in their faces but it was some of the best defensive work by Jordan Maddocks and Thomas Walters that stopped them.
Hornets pushed back at them with some strong running from Dean Pountain and Johnson which lead to a great pass to Kyle Smith who ran strong fooling the Blackbrook defence with a dummy pass to leave a gap for him to crash over for Hornets second and converting his own try just before half time.
Hornets started well but Blackbrook were the first to score after the break with a successful conversion bringing the scores level.
Walters had the first run and he was proving too much for the defence to contain, it took six players to bring him down after he had run 25 metres.
Sam McGrory was the next up with some great rugby drawing the defence across the pitch to leave it open for Fozard to get his second converted by McGrory.
Blackbrook were straight back at them scoring to bring them back level again.
Blackbrook pushed back but some great defensive work from Ben Cummings, Smith and Maddocks kept them out.
Hornets continued to run hard and following some fantastic rugby by the whole team it finally paid off as Fozard raced over for his hat trick, which was converted by Hankin.
Hornets held on till the final whistle blew and it was a great start for the whole team.
Awards went to Jordan Maddocks, top tackler; Lloyd Hankin, coach's award and Thomas Walters, man of the match.
