Chamber refuses to accept merger

SOUTH Cheshire Chamber has withdrawn its membership of the British Chamber of Commerce after being issued an ultimatum to merge.

The chamber has made the move after the BCC proposed to change its national structure and abandon the concept of smaller chambers operating in groups in favour of large scale mergers.

This would have meant the South Cheshire, Congleton and Macclesfield chambers amalgamating to form a chamber for Cheshire and Warrington.

South Cheshire Chamber chief executive John Dunning said: "We strongly believe that the interests of our members are best served by maintaining their independence and giving priority to issues of local, sub regional and regional importance."
