Lottery cash funds war exhibition at St Gregory's

MEMORIES of life in Britain during the Second World War will be brought to life in Warrington, after pupils won a share of Lottery money.

Almost £92,000 of Big Lottery funding has been awarded to nine north west local education authorities as part of the lottery's Their Past, Your Future scheme.

The initiative encourages youngsters to engage in history and to enjoy learning about the nation's traditions and its conflicts.

In Warrington, St Gregory's High School won £7,630 and has chosen to hold an exhibition of wartime memorabilia with the cash.

Pupils at the Catholic school have invited grandparents to contribute memories and memorabilia.

Clr Maureen Banner, Warrington Borough Council's executive member for education, culture and lifelong learning, said: "It is very important that today's young people are given the opportunity to see for themselves how the Second World War has affected our world and our lives. Thanks to this funding, we can work with schools and partners across our community to offer young people a chance to reflect on the importance and impact this war has had on the country through the years and continues to have today."
