Alsager win

ALSAGER Town returned to winning ways on Saturday with a 3-0 victory at second from bottom Formby.

Alsager started well, and an early effort from Alan Fraser flew just wide of the post.

The pressure paid off on 25 minutes, when Alsager took the lead.

Brotherton found space and chipped the ball over the advancing Formby keeper.

The ball hit the far post, but Macari was alert, and smashed the rebound into the net.

Alsager maintained the pressure on the home side, and increased their lead two minutes before half-time, Fraser's cross being headed home by Brotherton.

Brotherton almost grabbed his second of the afternoon a minute later with a looping header, only to see the keeper push the ball over.

Alsager continued to push forward in the second half, and Heler broke clear before seeing his shot turned aside by the keeper.

A shot from Macari 10 minutes into the half hit the keeper's outstretched legs, and Formby were denied late on when a shot from Smith was superbly saved by Powner.

Alsager substitute Grice hit the keeper's legs after a shot from Heler rebounded out, and Alsager scored their third goal two minutes from time.

Heler flicked the ball on following a corner, and Grice scored easily at the far post.

Alsager beat Curzon Ashton 1-0 on Tuesday night with a stunning goal from Alan Fraser, a curling shot from 25 yards on 68 minutes.

Alsager keeper Powner pulled off a superb double save from point blank range in the second half.

Alsager are at home to Glossop tomorrow.
