Joinyouth theatre's summer holiday

TALENTED young actors are inviting the people of Congleton to join them on their summer holiday.

The holiday in question is one made famous by one of Britain's top pop stars in a 1967 film musical.

Cliff Richard will forever be associated with the film Summer Holiday, which featured a host of classic songs.

The musical has been staged by professional theatre companies, but has only recently been made available for amateur productions.

Congleton Amateur Youth Theatre has chosen the show for its next production, and will be one of the first amateur groups in the area to stage it.

The show features a large cast of 40, including 11 main parts, and is due to play at the Daneside Theatre in Congleton from May 17 to 21.

The cast range in age from 10 to 19, and the auditions for the show were held on Sunday.

The musical revolves around a group of friends who convert a London bus and take it around Europe.

The show includes such songs as Summer Holiday, Bachelor Boy, Living Doll and On The Beach.

The musical is being directed jointly by Sue Beech, the chairman of the amateur youth theatre, and committee member Jennifer Matthews.

The musical director is David Francis, and the choreographer of the show is Alison Beech.

"It's a very upbeat and colourful musical, and the songs are very well known," said Sue.

Tickets are available by ringing 01260-277502, and are due to go on sale at Congleton Information Centre.
