AN elderly brother and sister have been left severely shaken after they were assaulted in their own home during a robbery.
Police have been conducting house-to-house enquiries following the incident on Wednesday last week when two men forced their way into the victims' home on John Street.
The attack happened at around 2.20pm after the robbers tried to trick their way into the house by saying the drains needed clearing.
When the householders refused them entry they went round to the back door and forced their way in, grabbing the 78-year-old male victim and punching him in the face.
His 79-year-old sister was also punched in the face when she tried to stop the men from getting into the living room.
Both the brother and sister suffered reddening to the face and property worth more than £1,000 was stolen.
Both offenders spoke with an Irish accent and were possibly wearing dark jackets.
Police are appealing for witnesses and information and anyone who may be able to help should call PC Louise Henson on 01244 620444.
