Clarke says Wolves can beat anyone despite sluggish start

JON Clarke admits that Wolves have made a disappointing start to the season but he insists that the club's patchy form is a temporary blip on the road to success.

He is convinced that Wolves will reach the Super League play-offs for only the second time and he is tipping the team to cause an upset at Hull on Sunday.

Hull will go into the game as firm favourites after beating Huddersfield at the weekend but Clarke says that Wolves should go into every game believing they can win.

He said: "With the players we have at Warrington we shouldn't fear anyone.

"Hull are a very dominant side. They recruited very well in the off-season and it's going to be a massive test for us.

"But it's a game that we can win. If we play well we can beat anyone."

Clarke added: "There's no doubt in my mind that we'll finish in the top six in the table. We'll make the top six and we'll go well in the play-offs.

"We have a very good side this year. We are doing all of the right things in training but we lacked consistency in our opening games against London and Leigh.

"That is something we need to address. We need to play well for the entire 80 minutes, not just in patches.

"We are switching off at times, giving away needless penalties and dropping too many balls.

"But it's not something that I'm concerned about to be honest. Consistency is something that will come with time now that we are playing week, in week out. We know that we need to improve and we will improve."

Clarke scored two vital tries against Leigh on Sunday after touching down five times in Wolves' pre-season friendly programme.

The hooker is enjoying his hot scoring streak and hopes that it continues.

Clarke, who stated that he is happy to play anywhere for the team after being selected out of position at loose forward against London and Leigh, said: "It's always great to get over the whitewash and I was really pleased to score twice on Sunday.

"The second one was particularly pleasing as it came at such an important time when the scores were level late on."

Clarke added: "Both of my tries came on the back of me supporting breaks. When you have players like Martin Gleeson, Toa Kohe-Love and Logan Swann in the team you know that you are going to get chances if you keep up with the play.

"That was something that I highlighted in the off-season - I said to myself that I want to support the play more and it has been working well for me so far."
