Water bills set to rise

WATER industry watchdog WaterVoice is warning customers in the region to expect an increase in their water bills, which will be arriving in the next few weeks.

WaterVoice says people without a water meter in the area can expect a rise of around seven per cent while it claims a family of three with a water meter can expect to see an increase of around nine per cent from April.

Water company United Utilities has been told it must spend £2.9billion to improve standards by Ofwat, which permitted an increase in charges that will account to around 20 per cent in real terms by 2010.
