Protesters fear a new fight

PROTESTERS worried about plans for a huge substation and trackside electrical feeder in Acton Bridge and Weaverham fear there is still time for the applicants to appeal.

New changes in the planning process have extended the period for lodging an appeal from three months to six months.

There was delight last November from the substation action group (SAG) when Vale Royal Borough Council's planning committee refused permission for the planning applications from National Grid and Network Rail.

Now SAG has been advised that the developers have until May to announce any appeal against the refusal.

Steve Pardoe, from SAG, said: "Sadly, the fight is not yet over.

"The applicants are reviewing their options, but if they decided to appeal, the matter would go to a planning inquiry.

"This could be a lengthy and costly process, but SAG, the two parish councils and residents would then be working together with borough council."
