A WOMAN was appalled after finding rubbish, ripped up fences and even excrement on a towpath along a stretch of canal at Rudheath.
The stretch is known as Billinge Green and Miss Davies, from Chirk in Wrexham, says she often walks by the canal as she works and often stays in Northwich.
On February 13, the towpath had been blocked by a fisherman's tent on the outside with fishing rods on the inside, making it difficult to pass.
The following day she was horrified by the destruction she saw.
She said: "It was completely out of order.
"Someone had ripped up fence posts to the adjacent field to use the wood for an overnight bonfire.
"Quantities of rubbish including food containers, plastic bottles, plastic bags and a small camping gas bottle had been thrown into the canal and strewn along the towpath.
"But most worrying of all was the human excrement left in the area where they had camped overnight on the towpath."
She added: "I am appalled by the behaviour of these people."
Miss Davies said there was a sign up saying the only people who can fish there are members of Northwich Anglers' Association.
But Richard Terrace, spokesman for the Northwich Anglers Association, said it was a sensitive stretch of water which was regularly monitored.
He said: "We have noticed over the past 12 months that we spend a lot more time tidying up after people who come along in pleasure boats, park there and have fires and barbecues.
"If it was any of our members they would not be members of Northwich Anglers."
He added: "We can't have somebody there 24/7."
