Tsunami rescue bid

A TEAM of medics from Warrington Hospital have returned from an emergency rescue mission to Indonesia having witnessed first hand the devastation caused by the Boxing Day tsunami disaster.

Fundraising began immediately after the tragedy, which claimed more than 250,000 lives, and the people of Warrington raised more than £20,000.

The Anaesthetic, Trauma and Critical Care (ATACC) Team conducted a survey mission of Aceh to decide if their skills were needed in the devastated area.

But after returning it was agreed that the skilled military teams already in place have the expertise to deal with the problems ands the team would donate the money to the main hospital in Banda Aceh.

ATACC team member Rob Griffiths said:

"The devastation there was terrible, but the military teams from Australia and Germany that are there are doing a fantastic job and they have the capacity to deal with the problems."
