VOLUNTEERS at a Vale Royal infirmary have raised £21,000, which has been used to refurbish its day room and in-patient unit.
The money was raised during the past three years through the time and energy of the Women's Royal Voluntary Service (WRVS) volunteers, who run the tea bar and trolley services at Northwich Victoria Infirmary in Winnington Hill.
The day room and in-patient unit, which were unveiled last Wednesday, are now equipped with 31 wardrobes and locker combination units, six dining tables and chairs and two dumb waiters.
Trisha Wallace is the manager of the WRVS volunteers, which is thriving with 55 members in the Northwich area.
She said when the money had been raised, the group met with the manager to discuss where it could be put to the best use.
Trisha said: "It is a really proud day for us. I feel a great sense of satisfaction."
Christine Barker, Victoria Infirmary operations manager, said: "We needed this so patients had a pleasant room to eat their meals.
"We are absolutely delighted with the refurbishment which will allow patients to dine in very pleasant surroundings and enable them to interact with other patients.
"We are very pleased with the hard work that the WRVS volunteers put into the hospital and they are an integral part of hospital life.
"The work they do is marvellous."
