Hotel is sold and its name changed back

WARRINGTON'S leading hotel, the Hanover International in Stretton, is to be restored to its former glory as The Park Royal.

The move is part of a £23.5 million buyout by Quintessential Hotels, which also owns The Midland in Manchester, The Queens in Leeds and Chesford Grange Hotel near Warwick.

News of the takeover has been welcomed by Stretton residents who feared the land would be sold for housing.

Appleton resident Jeremy Craddock said: "It's 10 years this year since my wife and I had our wedding reception at the hotel. It was called the Park Royal back then, so it's nice it's reverting to its former name.

"I'm also pleased it's going to continue as a hotel and not be demolished for something like houses."

Quintessential has already planned £3 million worth of capital investment for the Park Royal, including extending the main restaurant, upgrading the 142 bedrooms and refurbishing the public areas, conference facilities and leisure club.

Michael Purtill, managing director of Quintessential Hotels, said: "We pride ourselves on restoring once elegant, well known hotels back to their former glory which is why The Park Royal was such an attractive and exciting opportunity for us.

"Everyone at Quintessential Hotels is aware of the position and fondness for this hotel in the local community.

"We believe returning the name of the hotel to The Park Royal will re-establish the hotel in the minds of the community. Our ambition is to adopt the honest and customer-focused service ethos associated with Quintessential Hotels while providing unrivalled business and leisure facilities in the Cheshire area."
