TEACHING staff at a Padgate school are reaching out to children in South Africa in a bid to break down barriers and share ideas and skills.
Brook Acre Primary School head teacher Karen Morris, deputy head Lisa Wigglesworth and teacher Vicky Jones will join former head Mick Hare on the week-long trip to link up with staff and pupils at Giyani Primary School in Diepkloof, Soweto.
Mr Hare initially forged links with the school in 1998 when he visited for the first time. Since then, Brook Acre has been keen to strengthen the relationship and, in 2002, a group of 10 pupils from Giyani, accompanied by their head teacher visited Warrington.
The four Warrington teachers will be among 23 teachers from the region who are trying to establish links with schools in South Africa.
They will take with them a number of literacy and art activities to work at with the children as well as a stock of teaching resources.
Mrs Morris said: "We hope to share teaching skills and ideas, make new friends and promote a greater understanding and tolerance of life in different countries."
