Star pupils do battle for the X-Factor

STAR quality was the name of the game when Padgate High School students auditioned for a place in the spotlight in their own version of ITV1's hit programme The X-Factor.

More than 150 singers and bands auditioned for the top spot in front of a panel of judges made up of three teachers.

But despite high standards, there was only one entry that had the X-factor and the top prize went to Peter Melia and his band. They will now get to spend time in a recording studio and airtime on Wire FM.

Alison Dale, head of music at Padgate High School, said: "It was an opportunity for us to promote music in the school and show off what a talented bunch of kids we have here."
