Awards honour work of British Legion

MEMBERS of the Royal British Legion Winsford branch are celebrating a hugely successful year after scooping two prestigious county awards.

The awards are in recognition of the legion's successful Poppy Appeal and for an impressive increase in membership.

Branch secretary Debbie Clewes said: "We could not have achieved these awards without the kindness and generosity of the Winsford townspeople and local businesses. We came first in one category and second in another so it really is a great achievement for us.

"We have done exceptionally well considering the size of Winsford compared with other towns in Cheshire.

"But we have had excellent support and the dedication of members has been incredible."

The legion is now looking forward to further success this year. Debbie said: "This year is going to be very special because it is the 60th anniversary of VE Day and VJ Day.

"We are hopeful that we can make these occasions very special and are confident we will continue to receive the support that we have been so fortunate to receive in the past."
