Bright future ahead for Winsford Project

A SCHEME to help unemployed people back into work has been hailed as a huge success after delighted students completed their training programme.

The Winsford Project, based at the Winsford Centre in Cheviot Square, has been running for 18 months to provide the kind of training that prepares people for working life.

The latest batch of graduates are now hopeful of finding a job after completing courses ranging from web design to childcare.

Project worker Carol Halpin said: "It is great to see these people progressing and we have had a lot of success stories.

"We have a lot of contacts so not only are we able to provide the training but we can assist them in finding a job or work placement once they finish."

The scheme, which is funded by the European Social Fund and the Learning and Skills Council, is able to cater for the individual needs of each person.

Carol said: "We can offer one on one training so the person doesn't get embarrassed, so we are really adaptable. It is also a drop in centre, allowing people to attend for as long as they want whenever they want.

"This is great for people like lone parents who have to fit it in around other commitments in their life."

Courses are free of charge to anyone who is currently unemployed and Carol is looking forward to more success in the future.

She said: "We have had some really amazing stories and it is great to see people really making a go of it.

"There is a lot of satisfaction from our point of view as well so I am hoping this good work continues."
