VOLUNTEERS at a swimming club for disabled people are hoping numbers will not be affected by the closure of Winsford Sports Complex due to asbestos.
Alan Barren, organiser of Winsford Turtles, is disappointed that many people have missed out on attending the club but is confident they will be back in the pool soon.
He said: "It has been frustrating because a lot of people have suffered because of this.
"We had a really good attendance before the closure so I'm hoping numbers won't drop.
"We are quite a close group of people though so I think everyone who attends regularly has been kept informed."
Work to remove asbestos from the swimming pool is almost complete and Vale Royal Borough Council is hopeful it will reopen by the end of this month.
Winsford Turtles have been extremely successful in the past and the recent setback has not affected their enthusiasm to continue.
Alan said: "We have been going for 30 years so I'm sure when we eventually get going again we will continue to be popular.
"It is a real shame that we haven't held any sessions but there isn't very much that we can do about it.
"The last time we were in the pool was October last year so it has been quite a long time.
"But we are hopeful we will be back in there again by the end of February.
"We have provided a service for thousands of disabled people and it is vital that we continue to do that."
