April's work is in the spotlight

A POET who sought comfort through writing is having her work showcased in a new anthology.

April Dickinson-Owen, 45, of Weaver Street, Winsford, has been penning poems since her divorce 15 years ago and has found writing a useful way of relieving tension at difficult stages in her life.

Her latest accomplishment is her appearance in Express Yourself - a collaboration of the work from 12 authors.

April originally sent her work to the sister company of publishers Spotlight Poets and was delighted to receive a response.

She said: "I sent off some of my poems to Forward Press and they were interested in what they saw. I am very thrilled to appear in the Express Yourself book."

April has had work published in more than 20 anthologies to date including the famed poetry publication, Who's Who in Poetry.

She said: "I find poetry very therapeutic.

"It makes you really explore your soul and establish where you are with yourself. It's an excellent way of becoming one with nature."

Themes such as religion, love, nature and psychoanalytical theories are explored in April's extensive collection. She has also written amusing poetry for children.

Bootle-born April, who has lived in Winsford since she was five, has further plans to extend her career as a heart-felt poet. She added: "My dream ambition is to get all my works published. That really would be something."

Express Yourself is available for £6.95 from Spotlight Poets at Remus House, Coltsfoot Drive, Peterborough, PE2 9JX.
