A stone's throw from disaster ... driver's chilling warning

A MOTORIST who narrowly avoided a head on collision is warning other drivers to beware of youths throwing missiles at cars.

The driver, who does not want to be named, was driving along Birchwood Way at around 9.20pm on Thursday evening when a stone was thrown at his car.

He managed to stay in control

of the vehicle despite the shock and saw three youths standing at the side of the road hurling stones at passing vehicles.

Now the driver, who was left badly shaken by the incident, is warning other drivers to take care when driving along the busy main road.

He said: "If it had hit the window who knows what might have happened.

"It would have smashed through it that's for sure.

"It was thrown at some force and when you think about how fast cars go down there it could be fatal. I consider myself very lucky really.

"They were about 14-years-old and seemed completely oblivious to the danger of what they were doing. They've put a big dent in my car that I'm going to have to get seen to, but it could have been far worse.

"If it had hit my windscreen there could have been a head on collision.

"I just want to warn people to beware of the danger and that if they see anything to contact the police immediately."

Police were unavailable for comment at the time of going to press.
