New officer Martin is keen to make a difference

WINSFORD Air Cadets have welcomed a new pilot officer to their staff who is hoping to make a difference to the lives of young people in the area.

Martin Coates is no stranger to the 202 Winsford Air Training Corps, based on Greville Drive, as he first joined it as a youngster in 1994.

After being promoted through the ranks to cadet warrant officer he applied for a commission to become a pilot officer.

He said: "Being the commanding officer of a squadron is very prestigious and takes a lot of work.

"However the opportunity to become commanding officer of the squadron where I used to parade as a cadet makes it even more special for me."

Air commodore Jon Chitty said: "Quite simply we give our cadets the opportunity to gain self confidence and develop strong personal qualities while taking part in exciting and challenging activities."

Leaders do not need to have previous military experience and anyone who would like to apply can visit the open evening at the cadet headquarters on February 17 at 7pm.

The squadron can also be contacted on 01606 861036.
