Parents call for pervert to be named

WORRIED parents have spoken of their horror after hearing a Winsford man who was made the subject of a sexual offences prevention order could not be named.

The comments have come following a report in last week's Guardian in which a 35-year-old paedophile, who 'should not be considered a low risk', was given the order.

Janet Bounds, 37, of Calveley Close said: "I've got four children and I think we have a right to know who it is.

"I think it is absolutely disgusting.

"Because he couldn't be named people are talking about it more and so everyone thinks they know who it is now anyway - it has probably done more harm than good."

The order was issued to prevent the man, who has been convicted of two sexual offences against children in the past, from offending again.

But Janet does not believe the order is enough.

She said: "My boys go out and play football with their friends and it worries me that this man is out there on our streets.

"Is it even safe for me to leave my children to play in the back garden?"

Magistrates decided to protect the man's identity following advice from police, to avoid making him the target of vigilante attacks.

Janet said: "People will find out anyway and if they do, it wouldn't surprise me if there were vigilante attacks because this has angered a lot of people."

Another parent was also furious at the refusal of the courts to name the man.

She said: "Everyone is talking about this and the problem is no one knows for sure if the name that is being mentioned is the right one.

"And the problem with that is vigilantes may attack the wrong person.

"I'm not a violent person and wouldn't do anything but other people may react in a different way.

"I don't want my children to go out and play but there is nothing I can do."
