Six-car pile up causes early morning traffic chaos on M6

A SIX-vehicle pile-up on the M6 resulted in four people being rushed to hospital, but nobody was seriously injured.

The smash happened at around 7.30am on Friday on the northbound carriageway, just before junction 21a, near Winwick.

It is believed that two cars, two vans and two lorries were involved in the crash, but it is not yet clear what caused it.

Police, fire crews and paramedics arrived to deal with the accident and firefighters had to cut two people out of a Citroen van. They were not seriously injured.

Two lanes of the motorway were closed for around three hours and all lanes were re-opened to traffic at around 10.20am.
