Battling under age boozing

A BOOZE-busting campaign to slash under age drinking in the town was launched this week.

Warrington Borough Council is urging off licence staff to think about the consequences of selling alcohol to teenagers.

And its very own under age alcohol sales officer is going out into the community to spread the word.

Clr Mike Hannon, the borough council's executive member for community and well-being, said: "By encouraging shop workers to take an active role in spreading awareness and tackling under age drinking at its source, we hope we can make a real difference."

The 'I'd rather ask for ID than lose my job' campaign, being funded by the Warrington Health Partnership and the Safer Warrington Partnership, is part of the ongoing 'Drink - draw the line' blitz tackling alcohol related problems in Warrington.

This has also included putting hard-hitting posters up in town centre pubs to warn of the dangers of binge drinking.
