Dance for cash

BURSARIES are being offered to give dancers a chance to develop their skills and experience.

National dance agency Dance Northwest says cash often stops dance artists attending events such as conferences and festivals.

The 'Go See Go Be' scheme offers independent dance artists financial support to attend key national and international events and represent the region.

Dance Northwest programme manager, Juliet Clark, said: "This is a wonderful way for north west artists to contribute to national and international dance events, to develop their own career path or interest and to represent our region."

Dancer Qasim Riza Shaheen, who won an award to go to the International Kathak Festival in Chicago, said: "It is rare to find a festival that brings together kathak researchers and practitioners from all over the world.

"Simply being a part of the conference is a fantastic opportunity."

The closing date for the next bursaries is February 23. To apply, call 01606-863845. Applicants will be notified within two weeks of their submission.
