Paul weds his girl ... and vows to beat cancer

AS Paul Marshall exchanged wedding vows with his partner of 12 years, Janet, close family forced back their tears and wished the couple every happiness.

For despite the wedding celebrations, the service, held on Saturday, was tinged with sadness as Paul was told three weeks ago he has only a matter of months to live.

As reported in last week's Warrington Guardian, the barrister and racing car enthusiast from Appleton was told he had lung cancer just a year after being given the all clear following a chest X-ray which clearly showed the tumour.

And the couple certainly turned a few heads as they left Warrington Register Office in Paul's 1970 endurance racing 'Gulf' Porsche accompanied by a fully liveried service vehicle followed by a Bentley Convertible, which transported guests to the reception.

But Paul is determined to fight the cancer and enjoy many more happy years with his new bride. He is currently undergoing intensive chemotherapy at Christie's Hospital in Manchester.

The couple had originally planned on getting married 10 years ago in Jamaica but never got around to it. But things were put into perspective when they recived the news and resolved to put matters in order.

Janet said: "We had a wonderful day. It couldn't have gone better, it was a real family affair and everyone enjoyed themselves. The ceremony was pretty difficult, it was very emotional but we got through it.

"Paul is doing okay at the moment and we're just trying to enjoy a quiet honeymoon at home together."
