Dancer Becky is world champ

TALENTED teenager Becky Jones has the world literally at her feet after breaking new records to win a World Dance Championship.

South Cheshire College student Becky conquered the globe's best young dancers to become Pro-Am Teen Newcomer World Champion for Line Dancing in Nashville, Tennessee.

The 16-year-old wowed the judges throughout the contest, winning not only the overall title, but also every one of the seven individual dances, a feat which had never been achieved before.

And the judges were so impressed that they handed Becky a 'graduate award', the highest honour that can be bestowed upon a competitor.

It was the first time a 'graduate' had been awarded in the competition's 13-year history.

Becky and her family, of South Crofts, Nantwich, are due to move to America in the coming months to allow her to pursue her dancing ambitions.

Proud mother Wendy, 42, said: "For a local girl to achieve all of these things is magnificent, and we are so proud of her.

"What she achieved in America was fantastic, and we were all so pleased.

"We thought she had a good chance because of all the competitions she'd won in the UK, but it was still amazing when she won.

"She has a lot of natural talent."

Becky, a former pupil at Brine Leas High School, began dancing at the age of six, and qualified for the world championship by winning heats in England, Scotland and Wales.

She dances every day, and will be trained by Professional world champion Gary McIntyre when the family moves Stateside.

Becky hopes to go on to win world championships at senior level, as well as become a dance teacher.

She said: "I was very pleased to win, and I'm looking forward to going to live in Philadelphia, where we already have family."
