It's a vintage year for all vehicle fans

VINTAGE vehicle enthusiasts are due to steam their way to Smallwood for a trip down memory lane.

The Smallwood Vintage Rally has become a major attraction in its short history, and raised £8,500 last year.

The show is held alongside the former Salamanca Inn off the A50 Newcastle Road, with caravans sharing a field with the displays.

However the show's organisers are having to use two fields for the 2005 event after being inundated with entries.

Classic car entries already stand at 160, double last year's total, and tractor entries are up from 80 to 150.

The show takes place over the Bank Holiday weekend of May 28, 29 and 30, and includes two nights of free entertainment.

Among the attractions are a fun fair, stationary engines, military display, steam engines, classic cars, tractors and commercial vehicles.

The organisers are hoping to have a big wheel, there will be an owl display and glass blowing demonstration, a craft tent and country and western bands including Calico Jack.

The rally is raising money for the ATC and Cancer Research UK, and admission prices are being held at last year's level.

"We've been inundated with entries, and a lot of people who came last year as visitors want to exhibit this time," said rally society secretary Kath Jones.

"We had numerous compliments at last year's show, and a retired farmer from Derbyshire said it was one of the best he had ever been to."
