New Years reveller guilty of GBH

A NEW years reveller has pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm with intent by bottling a man in the head.

Ian Paul Escott hit a man in the Tricorn Pub in Palacefields, Runcorn, in the early hours of January 1 2004.

His victim lost around two pints of blood from a cut blood vessel and has a permanent scar on his head.

The 27-year-old from The Uplands pleaded guilty to section 18 wounding at Warrington Crown Court on Monday.

He also admitted a charge of causing actual bodily harm. Sentencing has been adjourned.

Investigating officer, Det Con Owen Woodfine, said: "It was a completely unprovoked attack, fuelled by drink and for no reason at all.

"Escott attacked the victim with a bottle, striking him to the head.

"The victim's brother intervened and he received a cut to his hand from the bottle."
