Donna will do anything to save her daughter Leonie

THE family of a seven-year-old Winsford girl is anxiously awaiting the results of a brain scan before deciding whether to take her to America for treatment.

Donna McCarten, of Elm Grove, is prepared to do anything to save her daughter Leonie if doctors in this country are unable to treat a tumour on the right side of her brain.

She said: "We are waiting for results of a scan which could take another month or so and if it is bad news then I will look at taking her to America because the treatment is so much better.

"It will cost a lot of money but I'm prepared to make any sacrifice necessary to help my daughter."

Leonie suffers from cerebral palsy which has placed a huge strain on the family.

Donna said: "It is very difficult but she is extremely bright and knows exactly what is wrong with her.

"It can be difficult but Leonie is incredibly strong and that makes it a lot easier for us.

"If we have to try to raise the money to take her to America then I'm sure we will manage it because I have talked to friends and family and they are all prepared to support us."

Donna is disappointed by the level of support she has received since it became clear at a very early age that Leonie was suffering from cerebral palsy.

She said: "I expected a lot more help than we have got.

"We have received help from a lot of people and her school has been brilliant, but in terms of support from social services I have been very disappointed."

Leonie's father Tony is proud that his daughter has coped with suffering from cerebral palsy so well.

He said: "When you are out with her you get a few people staring but if they actually asked me what was wrong with her I would have no problem in explaining it.

"But it doesn't bother Leonie what people say and she just gets on with life incredibly well."
