Ice axe robber strikes in Widnes

A ROBBER used a two-foot long ice axe to threaten a guard into handing over a moneybox in Albert Square, at around 2.50pm on Monday.

The robber ran off to a waiting while Volvo and it was spotted in Ditton Road giving off clouds pf pink smoke from the security dye.

An off duty copper saw the box fall from the van and tried to use his car to stop the robber going back and picking it up - but failed.

Police say the robber was more than 6ft tall, in his late 20s, of stocky build with a 'roundish' face and he wore a grey woolly hat and grey fleece
