The living proof that whisky goes a long way

A PARTY is being held at a Winsford care home today, Wednesday, to celebrate the 100th birthday of one of its friendliest residents.

Former Middlewich resident Nellie Yoxhall, 100 today, lives at Overdean Nursing Home and welcomed family and friends to share her fantastic achievement.

Nellie, who still loves to play games with her grandniece Georgia, 10, and great grandniece Mia, two, is delighted to be celebrating her 100th birthday.

She said: "I would like to say thank you to you all - it's really lovely and I'm glad I have got you."

A huge cake was brought to the nursing home, which was decorated with balloons and streamers.

There was also a singer to provide entertainment

Nellie lived most of her life in Manchester before moving to Nantwich Road in Middlewich.

She was married to Fred but never had any children.

Her niece, Ann, said: "It is amazing that she has lived to be 100 years old and we are all very proud of her.

"She still likes to eat her sweets and share them with the children.

"She has always been a very independent person and was still doing things like decorating at 90."

Nellie believes there is a very simple secret to living to 100.

She said: "It is whisky that is the secret. A little bit in your coffee is very good for you."
