Local policing is a big priority

ALCOHOL-FREE zones will help control problems of drink-related disorder, says Inspector Chris Jones.

Insp Jones has been appointed as commander of the Congleton Neighbourhood Policing Unit, which comes into being in April.

Insp Jones is commander of the Congleton Police Sector, and began his career in the police at Congleton 25 years ago.

"I want to see more Community Safety Action Groups being set up to look at major problems in particular areas and find possible answers," he said.

"A lot of progress in the past year has been with young people, and we've taken alcohol from drinking groups and stopped property being damaged and people being abused.

"One of the measures in the pipeline is the introduction of alcohol-free zones.

"They will be effective in helping us control problems of drink-related disorder, and we shall continue to use ASBOs.

"Our action against drug dealers will continue, and all of this is about making the borough safer and making people feel safer."
