Calling time on trouble pubs

ONE of the new ways police want to tackle violent crime is by getting a firmer grip of the night-time economy and clamping down on pubs that are the hub of trouble.

At this month's police forum Supt Clayton said: "Every pub is being assessed. We are writing to those with more problems and will prepare an action plan with them. The vast majority are doing a really good job."

However, she said police would 'take action' against those pubs that do not respond.

"It has a very good effect on the way premises are run. We are confident that by going through that process, we can make in-roads into violent crime in the next three months.

"It's a partnership, it's not us against them," she said.

And added: "We want to tackle the real causes of violent crime - drink and drugs."
