ONE of the longest serving employees of the Warrington Guardian Series, Edna Spencer, died at Callands Care Home on Saturday after a long illness. She was 75.
Edna joined the Guardian when she was 16 and successively she was secretary to four managing directors.
Before her retirement after 44 years' service in 1990, she also served as librarian and editorial administrator.
Initially she had been responsible for costing in the commercial printing section.
Over the years, Edna was also the official link between the company and its pensioners, organising many reunions.
She was the only daughter of Harry and Lily Spencer and lived in Slater Street, Latchford, for most of her life. She was educated at St James's CE Infant and Junior Schools and earned a place at what became Warrington High School for Girls.
She also worshipped at Warrington Parish Church.
A service will be held at the parish church on Wednesday, February 2, at 11.15am, before cremation at Walton Lea.
