College is praised for its Little Learners

STAFF and youngsters at The Little Learners Day Nursery are celebrating after school watchdogs gave them a very good inspection report.

Ofsted officers visited the nursery in the grounds of Priestley College, Loushers Lane, in October 2004. The nursery opened its doors in 2000 and provides staff, students and others with a day care service.

Inspector Rita Cruddos concluded that the nursery was run by well-motivated staff and had a welcoming environment.

She noted that children are happy, confident and secure within the setting and that there is a pro-active approach to meeting special needs.

Mrs Cruddos wrote: "The provision is acceptable and is of high quality.

"Children are making very good progress towards the early learning goals."

The successful inspection of the nursery is further good news for Priestley College, following on from a similar report on its 16-19 provision in March 2003.

David Bell, HM Chief Inspector of Schools, recently picked out Priestley as a 'particularly successful' college that received an 'outstanding inspection report'.

Mike Southworth, college principal, said: "As a college community we remain committed to maintaining only the highest standards across all aspects of our operation and this has been further highlighted with the inspection report on the Little Learners Nursery.

"It is further good news for the college and I take this opportunity to thank all the nursery staff for the dedication they show to our young learners on a daily basis."
