Volunteers are praised by MP

A WARRINGTON MP praised the work of young volunteers after visiting the Volunteer Bureau last week.

Helen Southworth met the teenagers on Friday and was impressed by all the work they do for the town,

She said: "Young people give of their time in so many different ways but it is rarely recognised. In the media young people are usually written about in terms of anti social behaviour problems. It is good to also highlight the many ways they benefit society."

Manger of the Bureau on Suez Street, Christine Jones, said that Mrs Southworth has a good understanding of the voluntary sector because of her previous job with Age Concern in St Helens.

She said: "We talked about the future of the Volunteer Bureau and how it can secure long-term Government funding."
