Candle causes fire scare at nursing home

SMOKE filled a room and corridor at Callands Court nursing home after a candle melted down and fell over.

Fire crews were called to the building in Callands Road on Sunday at around 1am to clear the smoke.

A spokesman for Warrington Fire Station said: "The candle had been left in an inadequate holder - one that wasn't metal or non-flammable."
