Consistent speed limit makes sense

I WAS driving at 53mph along Crewe Road (through the Willaston/Wistaston neighbourhood) as is my wont as there are rarely any traffic police about that area.

Out of nowhere a motorcycle overtook me at 61 clearly with no intention of making it to his pensionable age though seemingly assuring a rerouting via Leighton Hospital.

I slowed down to the customary 48mph so frequented by my fellow Crewe Road travellers, thereby giving myself time to ponder.

Upon reflection I thought, "there sure are an awful lot of residences along this residential region between Crewe and Nantwich," (I harkened back to the Beastie Boys VW badge wearing days circa 1986 and realised I certainly didn't want a human hood ornament adorning my front end like a replica medallion).

I imagine all those houses being home to quite a few youngsters as well as senior citizens.

Perhaps having a consistent 30mph speed limit the length of Crewe and Nantwich Road from say Crewe to Nantwich might prove very sensible indeed.

After all, just because speed freaks like me might enjoy the absence of the police service, we certainly don't relish the presence of the ambulance service.
