Problem drinkers ban means eight barred from nightspots

PUBS and clubs in Winsford are toasting another success after four more troublemakers were banned from licensed premises in the town.

The bans were issued at the Pub Watch group's January meeting and are seen as a warning to other people who are looking to cause trouble.

The latest bans have been placed on men from the Winsford area and have taken the total number of people prohibited from entering the town's nightspots to eight.

The four latest additions to the Pub Watch list have been banned for an indefinite period.

A 22-year-old man and a 27-year-old man were barred for possessing drugs and a 20-year-old man was added to the exclusion list for assault.

A fourth person, a 30-year-old man, was banned for using threatening behaviour in a number of pubs.

PC Dave Allen, from Winsford Community Action Team, said: "The message is clear - troublemakers are not welcome in or around the town's licensed premises.

"Everyone in the scheme is dedicated to making the social scene a safe one and fortunately the majority of people who go into the town's bars wouldn't dream of causing any problems.

"Sadly there are a handful of people who think it's acceptable to step out of line and that's why we have schemes like Pub Watch.

"It helps us provide a safe, calm environment for the majority who want to go out and have a good time and enables us to keep out the troublemakers who disrupt that setting."

Another individual was discussed at the meeting and has been identified as 'one to watch'.
