Residents want to shed more light on problems

RESIDENTS on the Greville estate are calling for improvements to lighting to prevent accidents and cut down on crime.

Colin Murray, chairman of Greville Residents' and Tenants' Association, believes there is a severe lack of lighting and is appealing to councillors for help.

He said: "I went round the estate with councillors Brian Clarke and Tony Hooton and they both agree with me that the lighting we have at the moment is just not adequate as there are some very dark places around the estate.

"There are also trip hazards due to pavements not being maintained and in the dark the risk of accidents becomes a major issue.

"In comparison to other estates in Cheshire we see very little money being spent on the Greville estate, at least there is no evidence of the fact.

"If there is evidence I would love to see it.

"The only people or agency that is spending money on the Greville is Weaver Vale Housing Trust."

Town and county councillor Tony Hooton is now hopeful improvements can be made on the estate.

He said: "We found a few lights that were out and we have reported them so hopefully they are being repaired.

"We found some dark spots that need lighting and I will be talking to the council about it to see what we can do.

"Lighting is very important because it reassures people against crime.

"This is especially the case with women who feel much safer in well lit areas.

"I will now be visiting other estates in Winsford to carry out similar surveys and identify areas for improvement."
