A VICIOUS attack in a Winsford play area has left one man with a possible fractured skull and another man too frightened to leave his own home.
The incident happened at around 9.30pm on Friday when Graham Flack, 33, and his friend Anthony Baker, 35, were attacked on the Over recreation ground by youths wielding a baseball bat and golf club.
Anthony was left with a possible fractured skull and bruising while Graham received bruises to his head and arms.
Anthony said: "It was terrifying but I don't remember too much about it other than seeing a gang of youths and then feeling something hit me on the back of the head.
"I came round and a couple of girls were telling me someone had hit me in the head with a golf club and carried on kicking me in the head and chest while I was on the floor.
"I went to hospital and will have to go back for a head scan to see if there is a skull fracture.
"There may also be a blood clot behind my ear that is affecting my hearing."
Graham's injuries are not thought to be as serious but he has been left badly shaken by the incident. He said: "I was walking through the park with Anthony and my 11-year-old nephew when some youths started shouting at us.
"I thought there was going to be trouble so I just told my nephew to run but then they attacked us and we had no chance.
"It was completely unprovoked and now I'm a big strong 33-year-old man who is too afraid to leave my house.
"It was a vicious attack and I have been given sleeping pills because I haven't been able to sleep since.
"I was hit 11 times in the head by a baseball bat so I think I have been lucky to escape without more serious injuries. But what is even more frightening is that it could have happened to an older person or a woman.
"Something needs to be done before this happens again because kids don't carry round baseball bats and golf clubs if they aren't prepared to use them."
