Ruth is invited to meet PM Tony

PROJECT development worker Ruth Reeves is to meet the Prime Minister at a major reception.

Ruth, aged 31, works for Alsager Youth Project, which started in the late 1990s.

AYP has a youth information shop in Alsager, which boasts Internet computers and is due to open every weekday from next month.

The project is also starting a mentoring scheme in conjunction with Alsager School, and looking to promote sexual health.

Ruth has been the group's project development worker for three years, and has been invited to a reception given by Tony and Cherie Blair.

AYP is affiliated to the National Council for Voluntary Organisations, which was asked to nominate 450 of its affiliated organisations to attend the reception.

The reception is being held to recognise the work of the not-for-profit sector.

It is being held in London on February 21 from 6.30pm to 8pm.

"I was very excited when I received the invitation, and was jumping around the office," said Ruth.

"I am looking forward to meeting the Prime Minister and his wife, and hope I'm not going to be too nervous.

"It's nice to be recognised for the work we do at Alsager Youth Project."

AYP has two new Internet computers from Alsager School, which have been installed at the info shop.

The premises are due to open from Monday to Friday, 3.30pm to 6.30pm, from February.

The organisation will be working with seven Year 10 pupils from Alsager School from next week as part of a mentoring project.
