Charity plans tsunami aid concert in Manchester

A WARRINGTON charity plans to hold a concert in Bridgewater Hall, Manchester, to raise funds for people affected by the tsunami disaster.

The concert will be part of the Warrington Rotary Club's centenary celebrations, and takes place on March 14.

The event will feature popular American and British music, including tunes from Cats and Thunderbirds.

Mike Hewitt, president of the club, stresses the importance of long-term help.

He said: "We have already contributed by sending over shelter boxes and aqua boxes to purify water for people's immediate needs, but now we must also focus on more long term issues.

"We plan to send fishermen in Sri Lanka new boats at £200 each, so they can continue looking after their families," Mr Hewitt said. "We are also taking into consideration the threat of malaria, and the opportunity of wiping the disease off the planet altogether."

Prices for seats range from £12.50 to £15 at the back, and £17.50 to £20 for seating at the front. For information, contact Bridgewater Hall, or Mr Hewitt on 220688.
