Police called in over parking at St Paul's

POLICE are monitoring cars parked in Burtonwood after complaints from people living near to a school.

Angry residents of Milnthorpe Road voiced concerns to Andy Cocker, head teacher of St Paul of the Cross Primary School, after getting fed up with parents blocking their driveways.

Mr Cocker informed Warrington Police and they have said they will actively monitor the situation.

He said: "I would urge all parents to always park with courtesy and with respect to other people's properties. People may say that this is only for a few minutes, however, it may be that a resident of a particular house also has a need to go out during that time and this causes annoyance, anger and frustration.

"Recently a parent living in Milnthorpe, whose child goes to a different school, couldn't get out of his drive to collect the child because parents at St Paul's had blocked him in."

The problems only happen at peak times around 8.50am and 3.15pm, when parents are either dropping off or collecting their children.

The 180-place school has a wide catchment area, including

the other side of M62.

Mr Cocker admits this makes

car travel more likely because it isn't feasible for children to cross Junction Eight. However, he is encouraging parents to use the Catholic club, rather than blocking Milnthorpe Road.

He added: "The club car park has space and is only a short walk down the road.

"I can't be responsible for where parents park, all I can ask is that they are considerate."
