Council chiefs in talks over parking spaces

TALKS have started at Warrington Town Hall in an attempt to provide town centre parking for council staff.

A council spokesman confirmed that officials at Warrington Borough Council were working with both Unison and GMB unions to look for more parking spaces in the town centre.

As reported in the Warrington Guardian, staff are currently taking action in a bid to keep their spaces which have been threatened by plans to bulldoze Legh Street car park to make way for the new Golden Square development.

Although the threat of a staff walk-out has passed, many workers are appealing against the decision.

A council spokesman said: "Discussions are under way with regards to additional sites and details will be shared with employees and trade unions as soon as possible.

"Due to the £140m redevelopment of the town centre, the council has had to find alternative car parking for more than 600 employees.
