DONATIONS of clothes, bedding and toys from kind-hearted Warrington residents are on their way to tsunami victims.
Dr Sri Kumaraswamy received so many items from people in the area he needed two containers -donated by companies Roy Trevor and Uniexpress - to transport everything to Sri Lanka. The help follows an appeal published in the Warrington Guardian.
One lorry left Bold Street surgery on Friday, destined for the ship Portugal Senator that is due to arrive in Colombo on February 2.
And another container was due to leave the doctor's home in Old Hall this week.
He will travel to Sri Lanka in time to meet the ships when they arrive.
Meanwhile, fundraising has continued across town.
Warrington Hindu Cultural Organisation collected more than 500 bags of clothing, bedding and towels, and £500 at Penketh Pool and Community Centre last Monday.
Spokesman Sunny Bhalla said: "We were overwhelmed by the response and generosity of people. The event could not have been a success without their support."
Somerfield, in Stockton Heath, has raised more than £1,700 for the appeal since starting a collection on December 29.
Cash can still be donated at any Somerfield store.
