GENEROUS Warrington residents have raised thousands of pounds to help tsunami victims.
The town's Christian Aid committee has received more than £4,000, which includes donations from churches such as St Elphin's Parish Church, St James' Church in Wilderspool, the Workingmen's Mission, Hill Cliffe Baptist Church and the World Evangelical Gospel Mission.
Collections have also included £180 from the Ring O'Bells pub in Church Street and £200 gathered by Louis Morris and his son, also Louis, outside their home in Orford.
Ruth Earnshaw, of Christian Aid's Warrington committee, said: "None of the relief work could continue without the financial help being given to us by supporters and the general public, who have so generously contributed to the fund."
Meanwhile, Tesco customers throughout Cheshire raised more than £25,000 in one weekend for the appeal.
British Red Cross fundraisers collected the cash during Saturday, January 8 and Sunday, January 9.
And a non-uniform day and bring and buy sale at Lymm High School raised more than £6,000 for North Cheshire Hospitals Trust's ATACC (Anaesthetic Trauma and Critical Care) team, which will be travelling to Asia to offer its medical and surgical skills.
A bring and buy sale at Oughtrington Community Centre in Lymm on Saturday, January 22 from 3pm will also raise money for the ATACC team.
Melissa Phorley, aged 13, of Ashcroft Road in Lymm, completed a sponsored walk, and her sister Olivia, aged 10, carried out a sponsored silence, raising £100 in total, which they donated to Dr Sri Kumaraswamy, who has been collecting bedding, clothes and toys to be transported to Sri Lanka.
And two Warrington Collegiate Institute students, Daniel Wilkinson and Philip Moore, will be taking part in a sponsored wax to boost funds.
Meanwhile, the 7th Warrington scout group is holding a bring and buy sale at the scout hut behind the Sankey Arms pub in Dorchester Road, Great Sankey, on Saturday, January 22 from 2pm-4pm.
Anybody wishing to donate raffle prizes can bring them along from 10am.
